September: This Is Your Time!!
Attention to all fantasy owners out there: this is your time to make a move if you are in a winning position in your league.
With college football and the start of the NFL season dominating the ESPN Headlines, many fantasy owners are starting to take their eyes off their fantasy baseball teams. Call it ignorance, missed attention, even neglect! But if you can capitalize on these next few weeks, you would be surprised at how far up your team can rise in the standings.
I wrote a post on late season strategies recently, so check that out if you have some time to read through the archives. The first step to advancing in your league is to figure out where you can make up ground: monitor your standings closely.
The easiest categories to make up ground are the solid number categories (R, HR, SB, W, K, S), not the ratios, so keep this in mind. If you are far behind in a particular category, consider streaming starters in and out of your starting positions. This is obviously helpful for starting pitching, but can also be used for batters with off days and bad matchups. I will post a guide on how to stream starting pitchers tomorrow, which will help you tremendously if you are behind in solid pitching categories.
Bottom line: don’t count yourself out. If you are fifth and within striking distance of first place, you might as well attempt a late run. Crazier things have happened, and you may end up with a solid Top-3 finish. Remember, no one likes leagues that go dead, so stay active until the last day.
